BADLY BRED WOOL

BRITISH CRITICISM. Of Australian Clips. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn;. (Received December 12 at 11.25 p.m.) LONDON, December 12. Mr Hunter, President of the Wool Federation, has sent a letter to the newspapers, replying to Australian comments on his speech at the Dominion Farmers’ Conference on August 13. He says that the wool trade interests in Britain arc disappointed that the industrial and economic conditions in England since the war have not allowed them to buy for use in England as big a percentage of thc total clip as before the war.

“Those conditions are gradually changing to our advantage,” states the letter, “and it is expected that the purchase by British firms tfiis season will show an increase on last eason. My criticisms of the character of many of the wool clips now coining to the market have boon made because 1 have felt that the producers of these wools have failed to realise the importance of maintaining the character of their wools according to the user’s viewpoint, and because there is a danger that, as a result of a continuance and an extension of the p'osent tendency, if wool values decline seriously, there will be a serious accumulation of this badly-bred type of wool, which might ultimately embarrass both the growers and the users. Therefore, the wool importers of Britain feel that attention ought to be drawn to this deterioration in the character of certain wools, and. that by so directing their attention, it will encourage the growers to correct the tendency, thus maintaining thn reputation of the wool-growing industry.
