Standard Wages to be Paid. Some time back Mr H. E. Holland M.P. wrote urging the Minister of Public Works to pay standard wages on, the Coast road. Mr Holland has now received the following letter (.dated Dec. 6) from the Minister. “I duly received your letter of the I9th. November, and in reply, desire state* that at tho end of last week there were ten men employed at standard rates of pay on Punakaiki to Fox’s ißiver Section of the abow mentioned road, and ten relief workers, and arrangements were made for 22 men to be given employment at standard rates of pay on G’harles-to.u-Bright'on suction, during the. present week. I havV also authorised the District Engineer to pay the ten relief workers at standard rates of pay as from, the Ist. instant.”
