The death (reports our Hokitika correspondent) of Mrs Thomas Howard occurred last evening at the Westland Hospital. The deceased, who resided formerly at South Spit, was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves, besides her husband, a family of five daughters and one son. The daughters are Mrs R. Sweetman (Greymouth), Mrs J. Bell (Dobson). Mrs Frank Griffin (Hokitika), and Misses Ethel and Marjorie Howard (Hoki tika), while the son is Master Thos. Howard, of Hokitika. She is also survived by her father, Mr J. McCarthy, of Greymouth, and five brothers. Messrs Jas. McCarthy (Waiuta). Frank McCarthy (Greymouth), John McCarthy (Ohakune), Jeremiah Me Carthy (Christchurch), Samuel (McCarthy (Wellington), and William McCarthy (Wellington), while Mrs McLaren (sister) resides at Palmerston North. The funeral, which will be a private one, takes place to-morrow afternoon.
