THE WEATHER.
WELLINGTON, January 16. The Dominion Meteorologist’s evening forecast is as follows:—An anticyclone condition is still over the South of N.Z., but is losing in intensity. The tropical depression is centred south of Fiji. Its precise position is unknown A rather vigorous low pressure disturbance is over Tasmania and advancing eastward. Fresh to strong easterly winds prevailing, backing to northerly winds and rather rough seas, north of Kawhia and Napier, and over the north Tasman Sea. Fresh to strong north-west winds, and rising seas over the south-west Tasman Sea, and extending to N.Z., where it is still unsettled, north of Kawhia and Napier, with scattered showers, becoming cloudy elsewhere and later unsettled. Showers on West Coast of South Island and southern Otago. Warmer temperatures.
