NEWLY-FOUND FRIEND

Sir James Craig, in a message to Irish Orangemen, states that he is
jirepared to act in friendly co-opera-tion with the Southern Parliament towards peace for all Ireland.
DAIL SITTING. LONDON, October 11. Mr Higgins, in the Dail, announced that the present Assembly after December 6, would function as the Parliament of the Free State, provided the members took the prescribed oaths. iThe Parliament will remain in existence for six months until the Adult Suffrage Bill was passed into law. The Committee stage of the Constitution Bill was completed. The Treaty. ? forming the second schedule of the ( Bill, was also carried. YOUNG MEN FOUND DEAD. The bodies of six youhg men, believed to be Irregulars, were discovered [at Westmeath. The postmaster of I.Sonna, on arriving to open his office,] !found three dead inside and the re- ' mainder in a nearby field. I Two unarmed Free State officers ' were seriously wounded while leaving Enniscorthy Cathedral. * HEIRARCHY’S EDICT. LONDON, October 11. • In Dublin it is considered that the significance of the pastoral cannot be over estimated. It is the strongest and most compromising Church document in living memory, it ranges all the powers and tho influence of the Church, definitely on the side, of the Treaty and Government. It is thought that while the Bishops should have spoken long before, the pronouncement , now will be a definite contribution to the restoration of public order.
RIFLE SHOOTING. LONDON, October 11. The annual meeting of the National Rifle Association commences at Liverpool to-morrow. The prizes total £6500. There are nearly fourteen hundred competitors.
