SEAMEN’S WAGES.
A NEW AWARD. WELLINGTON, October 13. The Arbitration Court’s new award for seamen has fixed wages on the basis of the 1920 agreement, subject to all bonuses reductions ordered since then, with alternative calculations based on the Court’s basic wage, less ten shillings weekly in the case oT married, man rationed aboard ship. The Court has ignored the Australian rates and cost of ITving variations, owing to differences in the methods oi computing and the fact that the cost of living in New Zealand did not varv in a constant ratio with the Australian figures.
