Air 11. W. Bundle, S.AI., has gone to Christchurch from Auckland and will act as relieving magistrate until the end of February, lie will then take up a relieving position at Dunedin. Senior-Sergeant Jackson, of Lyttelton, has been advised of his transfer to Ashburton. Sergeant J. AlcHolm, of Wellington, will succeed Senior-Ser-geant Jackson. , Airs Koon, of Victoria, who has been visiting the Coast, leaves this morning for Akaroa, preparatory to returning to Australia. Airs Bowman and Aliss Keairn, of The Terrace, leave this morning on a holiday to Christchurch. A San Francisco paper states that the engagement is announced of Aliss Alary Aliles Alinter, the movie actress, to Air Dion, son of the lead pencil millionaire. The death is recorded at Christchurch of Air James Hay, one of the earliest settlers of Canterbury. He was born at Petone in 1841. His parents settled at Pigeon Bay, Banks Peninsula, in 1843, being the first white settlers in that district. Air and Airs E. Stoop, of Greymouth, are at present spending a holiday with their relatives at Woodstock. Mrs J. Parminter, of High Street, leaves this morning with her daughter and two sons for Wellington, where they will rejoin the rest of their family and in future permanently reside. 1 Airs. R. B. P. Alonson (Westport), with her little daughter, is going to England by the Ruahine, to join her husband, Dr. Alonson. The Very Rev. Dean Hyland, who has been visiting Greymouth, returns to Rangiora to-day. Air. P. S. Boyes, of Nelson, has been appointed Town Clerk cf Blenheim, out of a large number of applicants. Air. Boyes is at present chief clerk to the Nelson City Council. Yesterday the marriage took place at Linwood, Christchurch, of Air. W. J. Duff, the well-known Reefton chemist, and Aliss Alolly Cragg, formerly cf Reefton. The young couple will receive the best wishes of a large circle, of Reef ton friends for their future health, and hapincss. Air. J. B. Discaciati, manager of J. W. Chalk and Co.’s, Reef ton establishment, has left for Wellington on a combined business and pleasure trip. ! The Rev. Father AlcDonald, of Reefton, has received notice that he is to be transferred to Hastings, and leaves for there shortly. The rev. gentleman has many friends who will regret to hear of his departure very much from the West Coast, as he has been ever ready to help any deserving cause, and has shown himself a man of wide ’ sympathies. i Air. F. de Tourettes and family, left Rcefton ou Tuesday for Ngakawau, . where they spend a couple of weeks at the seaside. The death took place on Tuesday at Westport of a very old resident, Air A. ■ AfcGillvray, at the age of 83. Gillivray subsequently took to farming, carrying on for many years in the vicinity of the terraces on which he had engaged in mining pursuits. Owing to advancing age, he sold out a few years ago to Alessrs Alikkeson and son. He leaves a widow to mourn her loss. It is understood that Air G. G. Aitken, the New Zealand Rhodes scholar, who was previously a member of the Westport Football Club, will be leaving at the end of the month for England. A suggestion has been made that a photo of the “Black and Golds” should be taken to include their old club mate. This club are winners of the President’s Shield, Seven-a-side Cup and runnersup for the Albion Cup. It is interesting to note that in addition to being president of the club, Air Atken, sen., is one of its most ardent supporters. A London cablegram last night recorded the death of Air John Donovan, who formerly was a member of the British House of Commons for West Wicklow. The cable states he paid two visits to New Zealand as the envoy of the Irish Nationalist Party. He married an Auckland lady. It may be added that Air Donovan twice visited the West Coast, the last time in 1911 in company with Captain W. A. Redmond and Mr Hazleton, then Irish M.P.s. He was an orator of the electrical type, and none who heard him even once would be likely to forget his Ulster intonation and forceful utterance.
