CONFERENCE AT AUCKLAND
EPIDEMIC PRECAUTIONS TO
CONTINUE
THE MAKURA'S PASSENGERS,
AUCKLAND, December 7 A conference was held yesterday between the Mayor (Mr Gunson), Dr. Valentine, Dr. Frcrigley, the Chairman of the Harbou r Boa rd ; and the President and Secretary of the Waterside Workers.
The Mayor this morning said that the work accomplished by Dr. Frenglev in' Auckland was appreciated, not only by the citizens, but by Dr Valentine. This ensured' a continuance of the policy as far ■as the epidemic work, in the city, was concerned, that had been in operation for the past month. A te'egrapi was subsequently sent
to the Premier, stating that, as the result of the Conference, it would appear impossible for any cargo to be handled or auy ship to be berthed until the Makura- is a clean ship. The Mayor, in his wire, goes on to state: "I ant at a loss to understand why the Australian puss«v«>-cr.s .should be detained after tne Zew Zealand passengers are ashore, as their being forwarded to their destination should be capable of arrangement, it is found that the ship cannot proceed, in view of the conditions obtaining.
