HOKITIKA NOTES

(From Our Special Correspondent) Some activity is being displayed amongst the quartz reefs in the Ross district. The reported richness of the Cedar Creek lode is encouraging prospectors to investigate, and it is to be hoped that their efforts will be attended by success. The southern town has had a lean time, from a mining point of view, since the closing down of the ' Ross Reconstructed and the • Mont dOr claims. If the number of early chickens raised this season can be taken as abasis of estimate, there should be no shortage of eggs in this locality next winter. Most of our local poultry fanciers are said to have had splendid hatches, and quite a good business is being done in day-old chicks.
