MANY GALLANT DEEDS. ENEMY D'EAD'^XGEED THE PKISONEIJS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Rec. October 12, 2.10 p.m.) LONDON, October 11. 1 Mr. Murdoch records many instances of individual heroism. There were numerous cases of men single-handed taking scores of prisoners. A sergeant rushed between two machine-guns and shot the crews of both. A corporal ' worked his waj' round a redoubt and . attacked an oflicer with "'the bayonet. ] The officer fled and the fifty inmatessurrounded. An officer, armed only i with a cane, entered the dug-out and j took prisoner twenty men. In the | final stages of the struggle the men ' bringing up ammunition ' left their ! mules and participated in the fighting. ' Mr. Murdoch adds: Iv few battles have I seen so much using of revolvers:' Most of the Germans carried revolvers which they preferred to the bayonet. Good authorities confirm the estimate that two. Germans ai*c lying dead on the captured ground for " every one taken prisoner.
