'the threatened cyclonic storm struck Auckland about nine o'clock last night Fpr twelve hours the wind blew with terrific force and torrential rains fell the fall for 24 hours tp 9 a.m. being 2,58 m., making- 10.35 m for the month to date. . There was considerable damage ashore and afloat, but in no case involved heavy loss. Telegraph, telephone and railway lines are seriously interfered with, and caused interruption of services both north and south. FLOOD AT THAMES. CREEK OVERFLOWS. MUCH DAMAGE DONE. THaMKS,- February 21. The' 1 most disastrous flood ever experienced occurred early this morning. There was a heavy storm of wind and rein during the night and at an early boi,r a small bridge over the „ creek above the town was washed away and was carried down stream. It blocked the creek- where the cemented portion begins with the result that the water overflowed and deluged tho town, depositing logs, debris and silt everywhere, and ruining gardens and invading houses. Many people escaped leaving all contents behind. Much' damage was done and tie shops were invaded. Every street was like a lake and business was suspended. The town is isolated and telegraphic communication is suspended at present (4 p.m.) Railway wash-outs stopped all traffic. When the obstruction was removed from the creek the water left the streets. :
