Mc- • Nab said that before it was known - that Sir Ernest Shackeltpn would be 1 available the three Governments coni- cerned, British, Australian, and New - Zealand, had decided . that Captain v Davis was to have command. Capi -tain Davis had already been offered B the command of a relieving ship by ' the Admiralty authorities prior tc coming to Australian waters and the t Imperial Government had laid greai 0 stress upon Captain Davis being in • command, and Captain Davis ar- } ranged his officers accordingly. 1 When Sir Ernest Shackelton arrived 3 and found what had been done he ir • loyalty to captains Stenhouse and i_ Worsley, was unable at price to fall f in with the arrangements, but, seeing the position, these two officers gener--/ously came forward and will relieve c Sir Ernest Shackelton of the necessity lof considering their claims. 1 . -. v The New Zealand Government re- • gretted exceedingly that Captain Sten- - house had been prevented by circumstances from taking back the Aurorae The Minister paid the highest tribute to the abilities of both Captains I Stenhouse and Davis. r The Minister • says that it is understood that Capi "tains Stenhouse and Worsley are gp- . ing Home and are offering their ser--1 vices to the Admiralty. I Dr McNab added that the British Government was' paying half the cost of this expedition, the Australian and New Zealand Governments paying the , other half .on a populapulation basis.
