In seeing to the health of the men who-, have - volunteered for service abroad, the Defence authorities have freely called upon the staff of .the Auckland Hospital. No fiewer than 120 out of the 250 men who have gone to Samoa and to Europe have received treatment prior to departure. Many of them were suffering from influenza, some from varicose veins and similar ailments, Avhile five of bix were successfully operated on for appendicitis/ Several men from the forts were included in the total and about half a dozen are still in the wards.
