Hill, speaking- at tiie National Foreign Trade, Convention, warned the United States against fol lowing Britain's lead in allowing b bour unions to fix the. scale of wages, thus enabling Germany to make sincessful attacks on British coinmeire. The burdens placed on business jii England were producing widespread industrial unrest and a similar elTea was likely ,in /the United States. It would be unable to hold i'-s markets against competitors while Maintaining wages at -a scale which did not admit of it meeting competitors' prices nnd simultaneously offered no inducements to capital to exploit new fields of development.
