JUDGMENT RESERVED. (Per United i J ies>s Association.) DUNTDIN, May 28. An interesting test case was brought before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., this morning to deteimrne whether an industrial union had the right M "*• flict fines on its members for non-at-tendance at union meetings held on SundaysThe parties to the dispute were the Otago Tramways Union and Duncan Ingle, a member of the union. The claim was for 3s only, the action being friendly. Mr A. C Hanlon, •fttf the defendant, explained tthat there Was -no direct legal authority on the point, but he submitted that if a court of justice could not fine on Sunday, an industrial union had no power to penalisp a member for non-attendance at a meeting held on a Sunday. His Worship reserved judgment.
