PENSIONS FOR MOTHERS.
OHIO'S NEW LAW. ' LONDON, Apnl 12. One of the American States, Ohio, bvat-ed his seventieth birthday in Well payment of pensions to mothers'. The object of the new law Is to enable poor women to bring up their children properly. The payments will be at the rate of ,£3 3s 4d a month for one child, and ,£1 ys 2d monthly for each additional offspring.' : •
The Yen. Archdeacon Devoy celebrated hie seventieth birthday in Wellington on Wednesday, and received many congratulations and marks of esteem. In the -afternoon v he was entertained by the Wellington clergy.
Mr. John Duncan, ex-member for Wairau. and "his wife left last week for a six months' tour of Japan.
