Sarah Beruliardt has signed a contract to visit America next season and play forty weeks on tho Orpheum circuit of vaudeville theatres. , Before leaving Riverton, Mr DP. Phillipsy now Clerk of Courts at Westport, was presented with a purse of sovereigns on behalf of the citizens. Mr H. Sharp has been transferred from Blenheim to Westport, where he will' take the position of District Engineer under the Public Works Department. Spencer Crakenthorpe, chess champion of New South Wales, is going to England to measure his skill in the game against other competitors at the cominic* British chess tournament. Information has been received m Mastertoii that a movement is on foot in Wellington to send Miss. Annie O'Leary, of Masterton, champion lady swimmer' of New Zealand, to compete at tho next Australian championship meeting at Sydney. Mr S. Turner, who has done some notable alpine climbing in -different parts. of the world, and who has been a visitor to New Zealand at intervals for several years, intends to make his permanent residonce at the Lower Hutt, Wellington. From his headquarters there he will make attacks on several New Zealand peaks which ho has not yet attempted.
