WHAT IS A LOCK-OUT?
(Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, Dec. 17. The Toiloresses' Union is takingaction in reference, to what is regarded as a lock-oiit in. the factory employing about thirty tailqresses. Thirty-five objected to four fellowemployees and •clemanded -iheir dismissal. This ibeingr a^fused, the twenty-five ceased work after givingdue notice. On applying for work elsewJisre, t,hey were unable for a considerable time to obtain, employment, : ; and it is alleged that in view of work being plentiful this must be regarded as a lock-out. Twelve of the 25 eventually returned to Avork. Four girls objected to the others, who obtained work elsewhere, but as they ,wero out of work for a fortnight, theunion considers it accessary to consider the matter wKh the view of possible action.
