FIRE IN COTTLES COACH FACTORY.
A NARROW ESCAPE.
Shortly before four o'clock on Sunday morning 1 Cbnstfcuble Nixsom, who was on duty, discovered a fire in Co'ttle's coach factciry, adjoining the Argus Office. He promptly :gave the alarm by niirnging the Boundary Street firebell, and dn a remarkably short time Superintendent Ryan and several members of the. Brigiade had turned out. They at 1 once discovered the seat of the fire, and after a short time had it out. The fire was caused by thei ntaterilal for wheels and spokes being left over 1 a furnace plate to dry, Mr Co^tl© having 1 am important job' cm' hand and wanted the timber thoroughly' seasoned. .Fortunately the walls of the buJ.ldi.n.g were of concnetei and 1 thus 'the spread was checked. On the top. storey Mr Cottie htid cxveir £500 of -'work and 'it is mainly due to the promptness of 'Constable Nixsoni and the members of l he Brigade ""that a serious fire was averted.. Mr Cbttle estimates his loss Jat about ,£2O, and thene was no in-
surance.
