A BAFFLED BARQUE
ERMINIA TOWED <TO LYTTELTON. Wearied of his fruitless efforts to make Lyttelton, under sail, the master of the Italian -barque Erminwa adopted tie unusual course ot engra.g-m.er a tuff to tow his vessel from Wellington, and reached port the other day. It is exactly seven months since the Ermina left Marseilles for Dunedin arid Lyttelton. She arrived at the southern port on June 10th, , -alter a passage of 131 days. She rtis'charg'ed part cargo of tiles' there and sailed for Lyttelton on Monday, 17th inst. Ligrfrt baffling- winds were experienced for the first three or four days and then the barque was driven away to the northward past Lyttelton iby the heavy southerly g-ale a week ag-o. On Tuesday niffht ithe ibarqu© was sighted off Cape Campbell trying to heat south On Thursday afternoon she unexpectedly put into Welling-ton having been baffled iby south-east winds and seas. Her master eng-ag-ed the Wellmerton tug- Duchess to tow him to Lyttelton, •arid a start was made at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday. Fine weather and light northerly winds were experenced on the passage down and the tvg 1 and her charge entered the Heads.
