HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The usual meeting" of :he ;>boye . Board was held yesterday afternoon. .Present — Messrs Hannan (in the chair) Hargreaves, GieseSdng-, Big-nell, McCarthy,. Beirne, Sheedy, Larkin and the Hon. Mr Marshall, with the secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting- were read and confirmed. ■ Outward correspondence was read and approved. BUSINESS. Letter from the Department advising- payment of subsidy to the Board's ■account. Received. Three applications for relief were laid on the table. The merits of the different applications were discussed and -relief granted,in each case, one of which was a guarantee of 6s per day for six weeks admission to the Cashmere Sanatorium. • Letter from Otago Hopital Board, notifying- that charges for patients at Dunedin Hospiital had been increased Ito the rate of £1 15s per week. Received. Letter from {North Canterbury Hospual Board postponing conference of Charitable Aid Boards, at the request of the Inspector-General. Received. | Letter from Inspector-General of Hospitals, re collection of maintenance fees ' from patients who receive compensation from other sources. Received. Letter from Mr John Walker, Blackball. Received. . Letters from Commissioner of Crown Lands, granting lease^of Reserve 29 to the Board art the rate of ,£~2los a year Received. Letter from Jas. Mcßride, porter, applying for an increase of wages. .On the motion of the Hon. Mr Marshall an increase wa s granited and the applicant appointed Head Porter. RESIGNATIONS. Letter from Miss M. Kr'ttelty, resigning position as probationer. Received, and left in the. hands of the Chairman and Secretary rto advertise for new applicants. • Letter from E. Aynsley, resigning position as cook. Received and resolved on Mr Bierne's motion that applications be called for positions of Head- Cook at .£2 per week and second cook at £1 10s per week. APPOINTMENTS. Three applications for position of Sister at the Hospital were -received. •On the motion of Mr Beixne, seconded by Mr Hargreaves, Nurse Stanley, of Wellington, was appointed. Two application for posit'On of position of porter were received. Left in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary. Letter from the Director of Depart- ! ment of Agriculture forwarding forms for admission to Government Sanatoria. Received. Letter from Dispatch Foundry Coy, Ltd., giving quotations for iron gates and forwarding sketch. On the motion of Mr Bignell, seconded by Mr McCarthy, lit was xesolved to order the gates, at a cost of £18 the pillars to be concrete. REPORTS. From Mr Thomas Bell on the present condition of the Hospital Buildings :— According to your instructions I have inspected the old hospital bu'lding and beg to submit the following report.: East or main entrance wind — Roof requires a few new sheets of iron and ridging and all the iiron wants re-nailing ; barge boa-rd s require renewing ; the spouting ' is .in • a very bad state; boarding on walls fairly good; flashing needs seeing to. The 'north half of this wing is fairly g»ood. North wing facing sea. — Roof good but requires re-nailing, certain repairs .needed to spouting also to wea-ther-boarding. The verandah facing seaward, parapet over kitchen and stores also roofs over this portion are in a very bad state and require almost totally, renewing. South wing. — This wing is in a very dilapidated condition, about twothirds of the roof will require new ironl the .ridging and spouting are in a very bad state, also barge boards. Wall covering wants a great deal of atention. I would suggest that the ornamental work in porch be stripped off and plain facing be substituted. In thi s report I may add that from observations I think the main structure, foundations and the inside of the building will warrant the expenditure of cost of repairs set foxth in my report, which will 'be approximately £130. This does not include .-painting. On the motion of Mr Beirne, c't -was | resolved to have specifications prepared and that so soon as same are ready the Secretary call for tenders. DOCTOR'S REPORT. The statistics for the month of October, 3910, are as follows :— Number of patients discharged was 32 (all males). Number of patients who died was 8 {7m ales and^l-.female). Number of admissions was 33 (31 miles and 2 females). ;) Th.ero remained at the end of the month 67, viz. — 63 males and 4 fe- • males. . . . ■ } "-. • The total number of in-paitenits war--107.; ■ t • The total number of day was 2,216. VISITING COMITTEE'S REPORT
We beg- to report visiting- tht Hospital on the 22nd inst. and find ever\'thing satisfactory.
Laundress.^Owing- to the- increase of Saturday work at the Hospital we recommend '.that the salary of the laundress be increased by £25 per annum, or a total of .£97 per annum.
Probaitioner Nurse Kittelty and the Head Cook having- resigned it is desirable that applications be called to fill, these positions. ~
The secretary hopes to be in a position next meeting- -to call; tender's far ( | •court and road from the railway bridge/ !
to the kitchen of the new hospital also for the erection of gates as authorised at last meeting. A report and estimate will be presented to you at 'this meeting for repairs and painting the old building. TREASURER'S REPORT. Receipts from October 19th to November. 24th, 1910.— PATIENTS' PAYMENTS.
INCREASE OF CHARGES. On the motion of Mr Bignell, seconded by Mr Beirne, it was .resolved that the chaTge for all patients at the Hospital be in future £1 10 s per week, and that the. Secretary notify other hospitals accordingly. On the motion of Mr Sheedy who referred to the recent death of Mrs Morice (senr.), it was unanimously re--solved to forward a letter of condolence to Dr Morice. . . Mr Sheedy also mentioned that some time ago a child's cot wa s presented to the Hospital by Mrs Morice , (senr.) and Mrs Mor ; ce (junr.) which, so far as he knew had not been acknokledged by the Board. . He therefore moved and it was carried unanimously that a letter be forwarded to Dr Morice conveying- the thankg of the Hospital for his late mother's gift, and a letter of thanks be also forwarded to Mrs Morice (junr.)
