DR COOK IN LONDON.
Ulysses has been run to earth
After a year's Odyssey, duringwhich he has successfully eluded the lynx-eyed pressman, Dr Cook has been run to earch in London by the correspondent of the New York YVorld. Since May he has been in the metropolis, but the simplest of disguises heft; served to ?e"euf e him perfect protection. He grew -a beard, did his hair a different way, ' and .that was sufficient to prevent s his ' being recognised by anyone, though he< had gone iibou-: with the utmost freedom. He : eve,i attended Peary's lecture at the '■: Albert Hall, and sat within 20 feet of the man who, he declares, was only a bad second in the race for the. North Pole. He Avatched King- Ed\vard's •funeral procession, m wnich his/triena ■the King, of Denmark rode, anxi ,took his -walks abroad just as fancy dictated. ■ ".-•■■ '■•'
' "You would be surprised u> know," Dr;"Cook toid .the World man. "how t imle 1 heard ot what happened after my sudden departure. from New York, which so r many •misunderstood, and. which my enemies;-' oi eourde, misinterpreted. A year -ironi one's country under these circumstances is a long time, but at was necessaiy. 1 was like a deer that has been' driven into a '-cold 'stream. ; ; 1 dimply-: had to g&i. away 'from perturbing conditions that surrounded me." - : -- Dr' Cook stated that he left New York on November 25th without telling anyone his antentiqhs. His itm-. erar/ after'-that,irieiuded y visits to Halifa-:, ' Liverpool, London,' Gibraltar, Tangier, Lisbon, Monte Video, Buenos Aj^res, Santiago, across the Andes to Buenos Ayres, Paraguay, London.

I.i answer to a question as to his future plans Dr Coble gave vent to the somewhat ayptic utterance: — "In due time I shall have a.n important -message for all interested in the trust of my Polar work. My : friends may trust me a few weeks longer and I will not betray their confidence." He add cd the .statement that "the North Pole was discovered exactly when I said it was— April 23rd. 1908."
