ADELAIDE, iNov. 23,

McCarthy and Company, tramways extension contractors have adopted a "novel way of preventing a strike.

[t was reported to the newspapers that -the employees of different contractors intended to strike.

McCarthy called .his men and -told them not to be led by others. He then conducted a secret ballot, which resumed jn 172 against and 3 tor a strike. McCarthy gave the rest a day's holiday and invited them to a dinner.
