The Canadian . correspondent of ''Shipping Illustrated,"' of New, York, gives the following item" of informa.rion in a receint letter : — -"A large co,ns%nmen of snowshoes is booked to leave the port for Australasia 6m the steamer Turkestan, which- ■ has been brought to supply the place of the Tokomaru, and the next ship leaving- for the country. Although the cargo appears somewhat unusual, it must be remembered that the southern part, of the islands comprising the colony of New Zealand lies but little outside the. Antarctic circle, and consequently there Js quite a lot of snowthere every year.". ' ,
