A PROMINENT CONSTABLE.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 19. Constable S! F. Lewellen, who has been connected with the Christchurch police, force for many years, and who will retire this week, has had long and interesting career in the force. In 1863, when a young man 01 nineteen years of age, he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary and remained for sixteen years,' attaining the rank of Sergeant. He went through the Fenian campaign in 1864 to 1869, and retired from the, Constabulary in order to come to New Zealand. On arrival here he joined, the New Zealand Police Force in November 1881, and transferred to Christchurch. For more than thirteen years he was stationed at St. Albans, and for the past fourteen years has been at Richmond. He has received several -rewards for efficient service.
