FIRE. IN A PRINTING OFFICE.
NEW PLYMOUTH, April 17
The jobbing and printing oepaitments of the Taranaki Herald were destroyed by fire at one o'clock this; morning. The literary and.- linotype.' departments escaped, being in a brick building with steel shutters over the windows doors. It is. impossible to estimate the damage at present. The building was insured for ,£6so\ The total loss' of machinery and plant is estimated at It is feared that the damage is irreparable. The origin ot the fire is a mystery. !!.wijthing was left apparently safe at 11,30 p.m. by the publisher of the weekly paper. A slight outbreak occurred early on Wednesday morning, but was extinguished before the fire had any hold. The paper is being published as usual. •- ' .
