PROGRESS OF THE ARRANGEMENTS.
(per press association.) CHRISTCHU RO H, Oct 1 7 . The executive Committee of the Exhibition met to-night when reports from various subcommittees were considered. A report of'the Agricultural Committee covering pjoposals for a four days show on the understanding that the Canterbury A and P Association i* subsidised to the extent of Ll,ooo, was hold over till the Finance Committee deals with the suggestions. It was agreed to send Mr James Jamieson, of Christchurcb, to England and tbe Contv^nt to secure pictures for the Ar'. yfiallery, providing the Govern men/ approves of the recommendations and the expenses do not exceed LGOO. Suggestions 'to hold a band contest and engage a permanent orchestra for tbe exhibition were ap» proved and Mr Tom Pollard was appointed director of entertainments as from July Ist at the salary of L 5 per week. On the recommeudation of the Trades and Labor Council it was agreed that a clause should bo inserted in all contracts providing for the payment of employees at rates fixed under the Arbitration Act in furce in the district.
The Mayor stated that very en» couraging pi ogress bad been made since the last meeting tf the executive, over 70committte meetings having been Held.
