Reefton High School Committee
(Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the above committee was held last evening. Present, Messrs Shepherd (chair) Cooper, Harvey, Scantlebury, Frees Mirfm, and the Revs York and Smellis. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read: — From the Education Board, advisdsg that Mr J. H. Harkness had been appointed Truant Officer for the Reefton school district. Also with regard to the application for outbuildings fcr the technical school, asking if those at the present school would not suffice if a back gate was placed in the cshool fence. Also with regard to the lighting of the technical schools, and providing seating accommodation. Also advising advising that a grant of £2 10s for a rifle cupboard had been acceded to. Also forwarding quarterly allowance for second quarter of £12 13s. Also advising that all correspondence sent through the post to the Board will again be received free of charge. From the headmaster forwarding monthly report as follows: — Number on roll May 6th, 156 boys. 149 girls. Total, 395. . No on roll June 3, 155 boys, 150 girls. Total, 259.4. Average attendance, 134.4 boys, 125 girls. Total, 259.4. Secondary class: — No on roll, G boys, 13 girls. Total 19. Average attendance, 4.9 boys, 10.7 girls. Total 15.4. Two pupijls airte reported to be suffering from scarlet fever. I have received word that I have been appointed truant officer for the Reefton school district. A seat in the gallery of the infant's) room needs repairing to make it fit for use. — J. H. Harkness, 8.A., Headmaster. Moved by Mr Harvey that 'the secretary ag(ain communicate with the Education Board, pointing out the distance between the technical schools and public school, and asking that the request of the committee for the outbuildings in the technical school groundg be reconsidered. Seconded by Mr Cooper and carried. Resolved that the headmaster be (empowered to make arrangements for the erection of a cupboard for the uniforms. Resolved that the matter of the lighting and seating accommodation in the technical schools be left in the hands of the Chairman and Visiting Committee. Moved by Mr Cooper that the accounts be passed for payment. Seconded by Mr Free and carried. Moved by Mr Free that the winter holidays commence on Friday, 26th June, and school resume on Monday, 13th July. Resolved that the headmaster be instructed to make arrangement for a daily inspection of the outbuildings. Messrs Mirfin and Scantlebury were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.
