The Lord Mayor presided nt a meeting of influential citizens in the Town HhII to initiate a fund for the relief of the drought-sufferiug settlers. It was announced that already he has received L3OO towards the fund, chiefly f ■ om New Zealand. The Ta^manian Primate and others made strong appeals on behalf of the settlers, and gave harrowing details of the sufferings and los es. A considerable amount was subscribed in the room.
