The Reefton School Picnic

. — -♦ This, to the youngsters, important annual function, was held yesterday m Greymouth, and to the participants therein proved a day of unbounded ioy and satisfaction. Tney ljtoraly spent the day ii* the salt water, scarce leaving it for food supply, and in many cases when the children obtained their share of the abundant picnic provender they returned to the water to snjoy it To the Reefton School Committee Messrs W Irving (Chairman), Bowater, Thomas, Shepuard, Murfin, Harvey, Scantlebury (hon secretary), Dr Whitton and the Rer Mr G.igg, the greatest credit is due for the compile nature of the arrangements made. Nothing was left undone that should be d >ne, and nothing was done that should not have been done to make or mar the pleasure of the d*y. The Misses Galloway and Williams of the Rewfton school and the Rer H Yorke amo >g many o hers deserve special notice for their invaluable assistance in comribnting to ihe comfo tand happiness of the little ones. The train arrangements were faultless. There were over 400 scholar* and 300 adult passengers entrained *nd all were thoroughly pleased with the accommodation provided, the strict time-tablo kept, the courUsy of the department and officials in running at such houM and at such rate as gave a long day in Greymomh. The committee through Mr Scantlebury deirt-s ns to thank all and *und y ©f Greymouth friends who assisted at the picnic, and more especially the harbor board for supplying two tanks of water ao'i allowing use of the sheds, two favors which could not very well have been done without. The train left on the return Journey on strict time, the still excited and happy youngsters frantica'ly waving hats and haudkerchiefs at the several hundred local residents and friends who had assembled ab the station to see them off.
