Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, eldest Bon of the Prince of Wales, died yesterday. Attacked only . a few days ago by the prevailng epldemio, whioh rapidly developed into pneumonia, or inflammation of the lungs, his physique was not strong enough to resist the attack. The sympathy of the whole English speakiDg world will be with his parents, and also with hlB betcothed, to whom he was to have been married next month. He was born on January Bth, 1864
His Eminence Henry Edward Manning, Ordinal Priest of the Roman Church and Arohblflhop cf Westminster, has alao died. He was born at Totteridge, Hertfordshire, in 1808, and waa educated at Oxford, where he graduated in firstclass homorß in 1830, and became Fellow of Merton College. He joined the Roman Catholio Church in 1851, from which date he gradually rose until he was appointed Cardinal in 1877. He was respected and loved by all sects and creeds, and his advice and assistance during the great dock strike lead to its aatisfactory settlement on bcth sides.
