Your Trustees in presenting their sixth annual report (but twenty-afxth since the establishment of the Hospital), have pleasure in again testifying to the manner in which the inatitutibn has been carried on during the past twelve months. The average number of patients under treatment throughout the year was 42, and while there has been an increase In the mortality of the part year to that of the previous one, the ages of those who have passed away have been much greater than that of any former period. Various necessary alterations have been made during the year In the ventilation of drains by the ereotlon of air tubes, bucken traps, flushing tank, «6c. Dr M'Gregor, Inspector of Hospitals, visited the Institution in September, and seemed well pleased with its condition generally, aud expressed satisfaction at the sanitary improvements, which had been carried out according to his wishes. Hs also again pointed out the necessity for an " Old Man's Home," stating that a number of the patients were more suited for that than for the Hospital. As the Charitable Aid Board have now taken this subject in hand, your Trustees hope that it will soon be carried out. To the members of local committees and others who have assisted by various ways and means to provide fuuds for carrying on the institut'on, your Trustees desire to express their grat'tude. It is with feelings of regret we notice that during the year death has removed from our midst one of our Trustees (the late Dr P. Smith), whose regular attendance at onr meetings has been missed, but more especially his connection with the Hospital for many years past as an honorary surgeon, in which capacity his services whenever required were readily and cheerfully given. Your Trustees have pleasure in testifying to the efficient manner in whioh the medical officer, superintendent, and the staff generally have falfilled their duties during the paib year ; also in thanking Dr Acheson (honorary physician) for valuable assistance rendered whenever •ailed upon. The honorary medical staff has been lately Increased by the appointment of Dr Millington and Dr M'Brearty as honorary surgeons and physicians. To the proprietors of the several newspapers supplied free to the Institution, and to the donorß of books, Illustrated and other papers, old linen, &c, your. Trustees return their sincere thanks ; as also to thosa ladles atkd gentlemen who so kindly offered to provide entertainments to the patients which have been thankfully accepted whenever practicable and thoroughly appreciated.
