[to the editor.] Sic, — For the last time on this subject, I would like to be granted space in your columns to make a few comments on your correspondents, J. Molloy, and the No Town correspondent's letters to the Argus. I stated that Molloy in acting as a guide to the late Mr Butler suited his own purpose. This Molloy admits in his ietter, and is it not a pity that the member for this riding could not get his motion carried in the Council when he proposed that Molloy should get a contract to make a road to his place at the. cost of the Road Overseers estimation ! The same contract was at another sitting of the Council tendered for by another contractor for not half the money Molloy states that a well known storekeeper of No Town stated to Mr | Bucler that up the No Town Creek Valley would be found a better route than his own. If this be true, that storekeeper pointed out the best and shortest route. I do not know which of the No Town storekeepers he means, but it is evidently not the one he would spend his money with if he had got the three hundred pound contract (a nice plum for a friend, that). Molloy's gush about myself I pa 33 over. I can make allowance for the bad temper of a disappointed man. I have simply advocated the best and shortest route, and I do not think that travellers, visitors and tourists coming this way would object to have the road a few miles shorter. The No Town correspondent state 3 that my representations are purely the offsprings of my own imagination, and never entered the brain of any one else. Well, everbody in this district, with the exception of your correspondent's clique, admits that I have atated the truth, and I still say that the Bell Hill track should have gone up the Nelson Creek Valley. If yoar correspondent choses to travel in a quagmire that is no reason the road should go there also. On the route I have described before there exists no difficulty. Your correspondent's statements are all on a par with what he has asseited twice before—that I stated the Bell Hill track should have crossed Deep Creek above the gorge, three miles from No Town. In my letter, which appeared in the Weekly Argus of August 21, 1 stated that the Bell Hill track should have crossed Deep Creek above the gorge, three miles from No Town, or from Bell's Gully. This track should have gone up the No Town Creek Valley, crossing the saddle at the head of No Town Creek, also crossing Deep Creek at this point, and then for Bell Hill. Your correspondent states that my letters are joint productions. This I deny. Your correspondent judges others by himself. Your correspondent says that Molloy at the present time is building a place above the township. This is not so. I will not take any notice of your correspondent's remarks about myself. lam writing to let the residents of this district pass judge- . ment on both of us. Both Molloy and your correspondent are evading the question of the best route to extend the track from Deep Creek to Bell Hill. This part of the track will not now be altered, having been made to Deep Creek. I stated* in one of my letters that at the termination of the track constructed there is a surveyed railway line. This line passes close to Bell Hill and would be ihe best and shortest route. I challenge the No Town correspondent to settle the matter in this way : to employ an engineer to report on the best route to extend the track from Deep Creek to Bell Hill, and if the railway line pointed out by me is not a better route than via Molloy's I will pay the cost ; but if it is a better route than via Molloy's the No Town correspondent to pay the cost.
