PETROLEUM,
Gisborne, October 9. Very favorable accounts came to hand yesterday from the Southern Cross Petroleum Company. No 3 bore is down
190 feet, and the bore is noAV passing through a hard close grained flagstone, said to be usually found about and between oil sands. It is slightly porous, admitting gas and a small quantity of oil to rise. Hitherto the fractured papa rock had been met with, which alloAvs oil and gas to rise freely.
