Gentlemen, — Being now qualified, it would be ungracious on my part not to accept the numerous invitations from various parts of the Electorate, and OFFER MYSELF as a CANDIDATE for the VACANT SEAT in the House of Representatives for the Grey Valley. I come forward solely to do the utmost in my power for the distriot and people on matters appertaining to their welfare ; and, if elected; I will follow no. party blindly, but shall act fairly to both |sides of the House for the interests of my constituents and the country at large. Knowing fully the necessity and Importance of 'the Harbor. Works in Greymouth, I will, by every means in my power, endeavor to secure liberal provision for the prosecution of the works, and will also advocate addi* tional aid for prospecting counties, Hob* pitaL and other local public institutions. With 14 rE. Wiokes have worked, and 1 will do so continuously on behalf of the East and West Coast Railway ; and, as 1 fully recognise in the undertaking the means of cheapening the cost of living, encouraging mining, and facilitating business, I shall, if elected, miss no opportunity of urging on a commencement of the work. It shall be my endeavor to see that Coast suiton obtain justice in the local courts, the Supreme Court being all but Inaccessible. am liberal and progressive in all matters of Colonial concern. I consider the present secular system of education excellent, but Colonial interests require economy therein. At the same time schools on goldfield*, which are too isolated, must be, as I have always said, efficiently maintained. I regret the time is so short that it is hardly possible for me to visit the distriot. However, if returned, the compliment will be the greater, and my seven years' residence on the West Coast having thoroughly familiarised me with the wants of the people, I will, if returned, unceasingly work for the interests of the electorate throughout, T.
