[special.] LoiNtdoh, April 1. The Crown Prince's son Henry is expected to visit Australia. The Oriental Bank reports after paying an interim dividend in October, there remained L 124,000 earnings, but losses and
depressed trade swept away the "whole amount with L 120,000 additional. The directors allowed for depreciation in securities and losses on Eastern exchange resulting in the absorption of nearly the whole reserve. The Times describes the action of the bank as courageous and praiseworthy in having frankly met and acknowledged the actual or possible loss which may be temporary. April 2. Berry is pressing the Government for a reply. He abandons any hope that a debate in the Commons will lead to a compromise in the Colony. The Cambridge crew are the favorites for the University Boat Race. April 3. News from Afghanistan state that sixty men of the 18th Hußsars were drowned in the River Bay in Cabul. Lord Harris, in a letter to the Times, censures the Sydney cricketers for the late fracas. Garibaldi is in Rome to prevent the sailing of the New Guinea expedition.
