THE Grey River Argus PUBLISHED DAILY MONDAY, JUNE 29, 1874.

To-day we are crowded out with telegrams. The Oity of Adelaide arrived at Auckland on Saturday morning with the San Francisco mail, the Omeo arrived at the Bluff on Sunday morning with later English and Australian news, and our interprovincial correspondents have been very liberal in transmitting matters which they consider of interest, so that local topics must, in the meantime, take care of themselves. Yesterday a woman named M'lean, a nurse, was found dead in her house in Hospital street. She was last seen in public on Thursday. A medical examination of the body was made yesterday, and an inquest will be held to-day. The hon. sec. of the Grey "River Hospital begs to acknowledge receipt of L2l Is from the Half-Ounce Sub-Committee, per Mr C. F. C. Algie. This, with the previous amount forwarded, makes a total of LI 15 17s from the Half-Ounce district for the present year. Miss Aitken (Mrs J. L Bunten) made her first appearance in Reefton, at the Public Hall, on Friday evening, before a large and appreciative audience. The Golden Fleece Reef, Inangahua, at the low level, has increased in width to seven feet. The Caledonian Gold-mining Company, Larry's, are continuing to raise very superior stone, as reported by the local paper. The Wealth" of Nations Quartz Tuning Company, Inangahua, cleaned up for the month on Friday. The amount of amalgam taken from the plates and b>)xes was 363 >z. making a total for the month of 1369 >z of amalgam, yielding 390-^ of retorted gold. At the meeting of the directors on SatuHav night, in Grey mouth, a divid nd of 23 6d per scrip was declared. The present surface level still continues to yield a plentiful supply of stone to keep the batterys at full work The contractors for putting in the middle tunnel are progressing very slowly, owing to the hardness of the rock, they having only Hrivon some 26ft for the month. The tunnel is now in lOott It is expected to in ercept the main reef in about 90ft further The lower tunnel contractors completed their job last week. The driving for the last 50ft has been somewhat soft, and good headway has been made, as a different formation has presented itself in the last few feet, small seams of pug intermixed with quartz veins, showing every indication of being a Bhort distance off striking the reef, as the formation of the upper level presents a somewhat similar appearance. The level is now in 500ffc. The frost has not in an)' u-.-iy .flFected the working of the battery .-

The share list fir 013 new Colonial Bank j— — -iror-o-uu-uajr; — rrc-artnnrornsea by the local agents that the shares are being taken up rapidly all through the Colony. As as index of the value of town properpty, we may mention thac the Argus Hotel, and shop adjoining, in Boundary street, belonging to Mr £. G. Rich, were sold by auction on Saturday, for L 470. We learn by private telegram that the reef was struck in the lower level of the Goldim Fleece claim, Inangahua, on Saturday. It is nine feet thick, and shows as good gold as any yet found in the claim. A notification appears in a General Government Gazette of the 11th inst., that after the 30th inst. the rate of interest, on every complete pound deposited in the Savings Bank will be increased from 4to 4£ per cent on sum? not exceeding L2OO ; and^rom 3 to 4 per cent on sums over L2OO but not exceeding LSOO. No interest will be allowed on deposits exceeding the latter amount. By the San Francisco mail we learn that the Greymouth. pi ize- takers in the London Art-Union for the preeent year are Messrs Wickes and Woolcock. The value of the prizes has not transpired, but it is rather singular that residents in Greymouth should take bo many prizes in this Art-Union, seeing that last year three prizes came to this town,
