MELBOURNE.
March 7. Last night, in the Assembly, the duty on oil was reduced to 3s per gallon, that on breadstuff's remains as proposed in the Government tariff; the resolutions will be reported to the House on Tuesday. A now Police Bill ia under discussion ; one chaise gives power of imprisonment for six months for habitual drunkenness. A large meeting was held io-day, to organise a bang iiet to the Commissioners of the Intercolonial Exhibition. The case of Cornish and Bruce v. the Queen has been settled by the Government, who pay cash L 107,500 ; and an amount of L 17,000, still in dispute, will be settled by arbitration. The entries for tha. Autumn Races, which commence on the 16th instant, are not very numerous. For the Australian Cun, Warwick, Tim Whiffier, and Barwon are tirat favorites. There have been small sales of country Adelaide flour at Ll2 ; maize is dull at 4s ; holders of gunny bugs ask 10s ; the Java sugar, ex Wellington, wa3 sold at fully 20s advance on late rates. Tho Customs revenue fcr the week is L 20,000.
