UAWA COUNTY

MONTHLY MEETING. {Special to the Times.) The monthly meeting was held on Friday. There were present the chairman (Cr. J. McNeil) and Crs. D. 13. Hawkins, E. C. Loiscl. 11. It. Littlcworth, F. AY. Shelton and P. T. AVecks. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. J. L. Reeves. The P.AV.D. (Gisborne) asked that an endeavour he made to operate fully on all authorities for road works. The Transport Department (AYdHiiigto) forwarded copy of a. warrant disallowing part of tho by-laws relating to speed of motor vehicles. The Department of Health and .Research enclosed a copy of the camping ground regulations and asked if the council desired them to bo applied to tho county.—Proposed b.v the chairman, seconded by Cr- Littleworth, that thf> regulations he not applied to Uawa County.—Carried.

The Department of Agriculture (Gisborne) advised that the ragwort reported to tho council had been cleared. The State Advances Corporation (Gisborne) asked for details of all rates levied in each riding of the county for the current year and the clerk was instructed to forward the information. The Cook Hospital Board forwarded statement amounting to £435 5s 3d. being the fourth instalment of levy. Tho AYa/inpu County Council invitycl tho chairman and clerk to attend a meeting at To Puia Springs on Tuesday. February IG, for tho purpose of discussing .with the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board’s representatives the electrical costs and services to reticulate the East Coast district.—lt was decided that the invitation be accepted. The public AYorks Department .(AVellington) asked that a, schedule of statistics be supplied relative to the operations of the electrical supply. 'Proposed by the chairman, seconded by Cr. AA’eeks. that the clerk write to tho District Engineer for extra authority to cover formation work on Tmnvhareparae road. —Carried.

The clerk was instructed to find out the position regarding the clearing of drains on the AVharekaka settlement. It was decided that some improvements should be made to the bridge on Ivaiaua, road.

Tho engineer’s report stated:— Secondary highways.-—Further workcutting back points at the 2m. and 4m. has been carried out. The five suspension, bridges at Mangatoetoe havo been painted. A long culvert has been nut in on Caldwell’s bill. A now culvert has also been put in near McNab’s on tho Arakilii highway. Arakilii Riding.-—On tho Kiore road the P.AV.D. have completed carting the spawls and breakingdown on tho road is now being proceeded with. The first length has been rolled. A. commencement lias also been made metalling on the A raidin' road by the P.AALD. Ilauiti, Mangahoia. and Mnngaluna Ridings.—There are no special works to report in theso ridings. Tamvlnireparao Riding.—-The gradin’ has been proceeding as far as weaIber conditions Lave, allowed. The grader has now moved down to the Huanui road in connection with the metalling works.' Tho tender of A. AV. Dover has been accepted for metalling 80 chains on the Huanui road. The tender of Ropehana TLuitapu l;as been accepted for tho reformation of the first 30 chains of the Tauwharcparac road beyond the Huanui turn-off.
