An indignant speech by Dr. Goebbels was delivered to 20,000 Nazis. 110 , contemptuously referred to France, Russia, Ozecho-Slovakia and Britain and declared: "If we compare the political life of so-called democratic France and Britain with Germany, wo find wo are! savages but fme fellows after all.” Ho added: "The French have lost the ’’ncliiiation to march into tho Ruhr again. We have torn up the Treaty of Versailles and thrown it in the face-of our opponents. Rearmament has cost us many sleepless nights and entailed great risk. Wo could could not take the German people into our confidence at tho time. If we have been accused of springing surprises our reply is that there was no other way possible.”
