OBITUARY

•MR. .ANDRE W B. WFSiV The many friends of Mr. Andrew 13. West, manager at Gisborne (or the National Bank of New Zealand, which post lie had occupied since December last, were deeply shocked yesterday to learn of his smkL'n death. Mr West, for a few days 'recently, had been on, sick leave, but had returned to duty. His condition on Wednesday gave no indication of his impending collapse. Mr. West joined the hank in Grevmouth in IDO4, and served in a number of branches, progressing sl.--a.dily through the various stages of promotion until he was appointed manager of the Reeiton branch. For s - veil years, prior to coming to Gisborne, he had been manager at Blenheim for the National Bank, and he succeeded Mr. K. G. Butters as manager at Gisborne, on Mr. Butters promotion to Christchurch, in December last.

Iu his younger days, -Mr. West had taken a keen interest and a prominent part in athletic pursuits, and had cultivated a considerable musical gift. Another of his hobbies was debating, and in this connection he will be well remembered in several towns where, in his youth, he participated i:i debating activities and other social clubwork. A member of the Church of England, ho took a keen interest -in its affairs, and had an extensive acquaintance in church circles. His outlook on life was opt> mistic, and his disposition most kind ly many worthy causes having -his warm support.

Deep and widespread sympathy will be felt for Mrs. West and three children, Lis one sun being a member of the National Bank staff at Blenheim, and nis two daughters, the Misses Gwen and Dorothy West, residing with their mother in Gisborne..
