<'SEMI-INTOXICATED' M OTOIMST KNOCKED MAN DOWN AND THEN WENT ON (Press Association »• AUCKLAND, May 20. “You and other drivers' have 1o learn that this sort of thing is; not going to be allowed. It is obvious you were in a ; semi-intoxicated condition, and driving in a negligent maner”, said; Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., when convicting George Tallentino, a timber worker, aged 3-1, in the Police Court, of negligent driving. Accused was also changed with failing to stop after an accident, failing, to render assistance, and ■failing to report to the police. The charges arose out. of an accident on the new North Road on February 22 when a. man tvas knocked down ana seriously injured. “Apparently you were in such a condition that you merely, pulled up and went on”, said the magistrate. “I .have the public to* consider,, and any man who behaves as you behaved', musit' have .an exemplary sentence. "If finds will not stop you then you must be put somewhere where yon cannot offend.” Accused was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment oji the negligent drivingcharge and convicted and ordered to pay costs- on the other three counts.
