There was a good market fo; sheep, and a weaker one for cattle. Store sheep.—AH classes sold, well Ewes were better by up to one shilling tv head, as were also forward wethers and (iwfi lambs. A feature of the Westfield fat stock market to-day was tho demand for baconers. Bidding was extremely brisk throughout tho sale in this section and quotations showed a sharp riso on late rates. Ox beef was again in comparatively short supply and values remained firm on last week’s sales. Cows and heifers wero yarded in good numbers and bidding spirited, recent values being maintained. Extra choice ox sold to 27s per 1001 b.; choice and pri mo 23s to 2Cs; secondary and plain ISs to 225; prime young cow and heifer beef 23s to 265; other cow beef 38s to 225; extra heavy prime sheers £lO to £11.; heavy prime steers £9 6s to £9 19s; lighter prime £8 10s to £9; lighter prime £7 10s to £8 ss; small and unfinished £4 10s to £6 ss: extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £7 to £8 15s ; heavy prime £5 to £6 ss; lighter prime £4 to £4 10s; other killable cows £2 15s to £3 ss. Calves came forward in full numbers and. in this section, there was a bright, sale. Values generally were firm, lmt small vealers showed a further improvement. .Runners made £2 Ss to £5 14s; heavy prime vealers £3 Of. to £3 16s ; medium £2 16s to £3 3s ; light £2 6s to £2 13s; unfinished and bucketed 16s to 295; bobby and rough calves 4s to 14s. Thero was an nverago yarding of sheep, comprising many pens of well finished wethers. Competition was keon and values firm at late rates. Extra heavy prime wethers 31s 9(1 to .32s 6d; heavy prime 30s Gd to 3’ls 6(1; medium prime 29s to 30s; light prime 26s to 28s 6d; small and unfinished 28s to 25s 9d; primo maiden ewes 23s Gd to .30s 6d; heavy prime 22s to 235; medium prime 20s to 21s 6d; light prime 19s to 20s 6d; just, killable 15s to 10s; poor ewes 7s 6d to 32s ddLambs, which were penned in average numbers, sold readily. ' While there was particularly keen demand for good baconers, good quality ■ porkers also sold readily at a /-light increase on late rates. Values were much easier, however, for plain and unfinished porkers.
