An impressive and beautiful sight, a full-rigged ship with all sail set. came sailing through Cook Strait this afternoon, setting a course as though to enter Wellington harbor. At the Pleads, however, she went about and stood out to sen again. The vessel was identified as the full-rigged ship Joseph Conrad. AA'hon last seen at dusk, she was steering to the south-east in the direction of Cape Palliser. The ship was first sighted about 4 o'clock.

Coming up the _ strait from Terawhiti slm was making about ten knots with everv sUtch of canvas sot. She ston/1 in imvr.r.'is Seatourn. as though to enter the II Is. Off Lvall Bay she hoisted her ensign. The ship actually reached tho harCmr month and was reported in Wellington as coming in when she changed her course and field away past Paring Head,. with the wind abeam, making good speed. Site was off Palliser Bay when darkness closed down, obscuring her further movements. She made no signals. The Tarnahine. which left Wellington at 2.45 p.m. for Picton. was stated to have passed the sailing ship in the strait. She was a three-masted fnllrigged ship according to those who saw her.
