GISBORNE CLUB CARNIVAL

DIOMEDE MEN COMPETE

ANOTHER LARGE CROWD

With the added attraction of a team from H.M.S. Diomede competing, the Gisborne Club’s carnival in the Macrae bath latst evening drew another very large attendance and produced sorne excellent sport. As usual the arrangements were of the best and the officials deserve 'every congratulation on the (successful evening. ' The men from the Diomede figured largely in the evening’s entertainment and tk? special race for them required three heats which, together with the final, were very closely contested. The naval team also carried off the honors in the water polo match and a pair of them gave a grotesque diving act which drew thunderous roars of laughter. As far as the club swimmers were concerned special interest centred in the 220 yards men's' championship which saw the title change hands, the holder, J. Beckett, being decisively beaten by H. Holmes. The open dive resulted in a popular success for B. Terry who gave a very fine display. The McKeague Cup, for school relay teams, was carried off by the Gisborne Central A and the Handricks Rase Bowl, for the dual relay, was won by Miss J.
