WOOL INDUSTRY.
SCOTTISH EXPERT’S ADAUCE TO FARAIFRS. PALAfERSTON X., Nov. 6 "New Zealand flocks as a whole are very good, and the studs are excellent, but there arc numbers of ordinary flocks which are much below standard, due to carelessness in. breeding and attention to the flock and insufficient care taken in farming generally,” declared Dr Thomas Oliver, D.Sc., principal emeritu s of the Scottish AA’oollen ’Technical College, Galashiels, in an interview io-dav.
Dr Oliver has been seven weeks in the Domin’on. During his visit to Palmerston North he inspected the wool research department at Ala .ssey Agricultural College and addressed members of the Palmerston • North Citizen’s Lunch Club.
Afr Oliver said that the yield of iambs in New Zealand was much lower than in England or Scotland, where 1000 lambs, from 1000 ewes would be considered poor business. Indeed, 1500 lambs from 1000 ewes m the low-lying land would be quite average practice.
