She now looks a possibility in the Doncaster Handicap. - NOTES AND NEWS. A. H. Eastwood is assured oF’somo good rides at Trentham. His engagements, so far, for the first day include Copyist, Silly Owl, . Scarlet Rambler, Pomp, and Rebel Star. # # it Shatter gave a disappointing play in the Peninsula Cup at Motultarara. He was well placed early, but lie shaped poorly over' the last two furongs, finishing a. long way back. As a result F. D. Jones lias decided not to send him to Trentham this week.. Shatter has a bad. record this season. In spite of excellent track v-ork he has not won a race, and though he has been placed a feiw times, some of his worst performances have been registered when he looked most like showing his best form.

Royal Amphora is none the worse for his race at Motukarara. He will be taken to Trent ham and he should race well in hack sprints, despite the fact that- he is getting up in Bie weights.

A surprise resuit mine in the Tahcraito Hack Cup, which I -indie won very nicely from the favoorl. To, West Tor. Moatoa led to the •sfrrgjjhb-h where Most Tor. on the outer, had run up just ahead of PI a die, with BoUbronoy, who had always been prominent, next.. Pladio was in front, at the distance and in the run li-ome was solidly challenged by West. Tor, who, however, failed by half a length. Royal Shift finished on in third place. Following these were Menton, Pukehou, Bollblronoy. Bon Panicle, and Win to Squall. This was the host showing pladio ha s made for "emo time, and his first win' since entering M. Williams's stable. M eat, Tor ran right up to form and had the ground to suit him. Prominent early, Bollbroney could not run on. Moatoa ran a fair race, hut Bon Rnpidc was never dangerous-.

Catching the jump-out. Souchong soon hit thp front in the President’s Handicap at Dannevirke and with two furlongs gone lie wap sovoTal length,-.: in front of Aston, Royal Routine, air 1 Hunting, who wore at the head of the others. Royal Routine and Good Hunting were well back crossing the top, hut Good' ITifn'tivng, came agaTn followed Souchong into .the straight, where Epigram was going well on the rails and Takaluia was coming Tari on the outgr. Takakua finished Past and won by two lengths from Epigram, who finished a neck in front of Souchong. Next to these were Golden. Shadow and Royal Routine. Takakua was, too solid for the opposition and won well after getting away hadl.v. Ho paid Pearly double figures. Epigram ran a gt'eat race notwithstanding that lie was big in condition.
