WRITING ON WALL

FREE STATE AND ITS EXPENDITURE.

(U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received March 11, 11 p.m.) LONDON, March 11.

The Sunday Times Dublin correspondent says that although Mr. De Valera promised to reduce expenditure by £2,000,000 on the estimates for 1934 the amount is £3,400,000 compared with £2,500,000. Moreover the last loan on December 12 was only half subscribed, which may be regarded as “the writing, on the wall.” Expenditure on such a scale would only be possible by borrowing which is now restricted in the Free State.
