BEAR OF OAKLAND IN GALE

To-day the ship is rolling heavily in a strong south-west gale and very rough seas. Since her departure from the Bay of Whales, the ship has experienced a long series of terrific Polar gales, which would have spelled misfortune for a less sturdy vessel.
