Earthquake matters were, considered at a meeting of the Borough Council.

His Worship said he kadi read th<J reports of damage elsewhere, but who, he said, could give an accurate statement of damage done anywhere Dannevirke had certainly suffered as much damage as anywhere, but they were not sending sensational reports The Town Hall had been damaged, but to iwhat extent he was unable to say.
The council appointed an architect to make an immediate report on the condition of the hall.
The Mayor said the duty of the council was to see that all buildings in the main street were made reasonably safe. . It was decided that before any parapets and other damage was repaired, owners must obtain permits from the council. Such applications would be referred to the Public Works Department. This iwas not to apply to the re-erection of chimneys. The overseer is to inspect all buildings considered to be dangerous with power to serve notice on the owners, calling upon them to effect the necessary repairs.
